A few years ago he teamed up with a wilderness medical instructor, to design an 8-day High Altitude First Responder course - specifically for Tusker's crack guides. Each year our 18 guides MUST pass this intensive course, led by Eddie Frank. Eddie's vision has been to build the safest and most reliable company on Kilimanjaro. And he believes the only way to do that is to ensure the safety and well-being of his clients.

Eddie Frank, Tusker's founder, has climbed Kilimanjaro 36 times since his first climb in 1977. He continues to lead our large climbs. By doing so, Eddie maintains close contact with our ground operation in Tanzania and keeps informed about local conditions.

He has personally handpicked each of our expert Tanzanian guides for their leadership qualities and group skills. Eddie is a medical professional, and trains the guides once a year in an intensive 8-day High Altitude Medical course. From ensuring that your camp gear is immaculate, planning your superb meals, to organizing the logistics of a possible evacuation, our crew is a well-honed machine. You'll be amazed.

All other companies use one head guide regardless of the group size. With smaller groups our climber-to-guide ration is 2-1. With larger groups our climber-to-guide ratio is 5-to-1.

This makes your climb much safer and much more enjoyable.
